Work-around for Follow Up with IMAP

Hi,

I want to have a way to view the messages I marked as follow-up in my
IMAP-folder in a similar way as it is done for pop-accounts.
I know, that it is not possible out of the box, but maybe with some
scripting/plugin?
Any suggestions, hints, existing solutions would be appreciated.
