First of all, sorry for the epic.
So we've made some progress on the "This week-Last week" portfolio analyzer
views without modifying the cube time dimensions (We
ve actually quit using the "Time" dementian) or using any 3rd party products.
It is more of a manual solution, with an emphasis on PM process timelines.
(i.e. when all PMs must have their plans updated by, when the cube is built,
etc..) but in initial testing, it looks as if its going to work
What we've done, is add a Version called "Last Week"
The idea is that every Friday, a PMO administrator will:
1. Delete all previous weeks "Last Week" Version projects.
2. open each (.Published) project R/O and "Save-as" -->Version->Last Week..
Then Publish All info, and close.
This Version Dimension then gets pushed to proj ctr views, and the cube. We
then have a Portfolio Analyzer pivot table which shows Versions as a Column,
(e.g. Published, and Last Week) then Totals (Work Variance)as Data which give
us the comparison desired.
That said, I have one substantial hurdle, and a couple of annoyances to
overcome.
HURDLE:
I need to now create a Calculated Total, which doesn't just reference
existing fields, it needs to calculate data from different Versions of the
same field (Total).
How would I reference Work Variance from the Last Week version in a
Calculated Total?
I'm no expert in Excel, but I wouldn't think this is beyond the
capabilities of the OWC. Ideas?
Annoyance 1.
In Portfolio Analyzer views, is there a way to get rid of (hide, delete,
flog) the Grand Totals?
Annoyance 2
In Project Center Views, Does the grouping always add the summary rows? I've
tried to change the rollup type for Ent Custom fields to no avail, Work
Variance for the group of projects always seem to be the sum of all the
projects, rather than the average, regardless of rollup method. Portfolio
Analyzer seems to average these correctly, except giving me the Grand Total
average Work Variance between This week and Last week. (see Annoyance 1)
Thanks for listening,
