Work file in Word

T

Tantogatan

For the last two days I receive the following error message after a few
minutes when I work on any of my Word files: "You are working without a work
file in Word and the memory is almost full. Save the document." The window
then freezes. I can close it but cannot carry out any changes or copy the
file elsewhere. This has never happened before. The only change I have made
to the Word program is to compress my Word files to save space. I'd be really
grateful for any help, even an explanation of which memory it is that is
almost full. And what does it mean to work without a work file in Word when
I've just opened the file in Word?

I'm having the same problem (long term, but I use Word Perf when not dealing
with MS users). I've got Word 2003 SP3 (Office). The message inevitable comes
up after a relatively short period of work with the program. I've been
watching this question for several days now and would also appreciate a
response. Thanks for any help...

Further information: Online diagnostics lists the error message as 10113, but
says "Currently there are no Office Assistance articles available for this
error message".

I've spent many an hour trying to figure this out. Perhaps more info will
inspire someone to help...

Thanks and here are more details.

Aha...maybe. Thanks Terry... The only other user is 'Administrator', probably
the original setup; I left it alone and set up a separate admin user account
for myself. Switching users (which I probably haven't done since I set up
Vista), I got a message "...failed to connect to System Notification
Service..." that I haven't seen before. Word had to be set up to the A
account to open and when it did, it was without the various modifications
I've made. I shut it down and opened it from "Run" with /a and didn't get the
work file message. I switched back to my main user, tried the same and got
the work file message on opening a file as usual.

So... maybe if I reset the file options to match what are probably the
original default settings, all will be well? I'll try each one that's been
changed separately.

However, when I switched to my working user, I got the 'failed to connect to
sys event notification service' there too. What's that about?

Thanks.

Nope, didn't. Still geting the can't create work file-check temp variable
message. Any other suggestions?

My thoughts are that you have done all the correct measures to resolve the
problem, so it suggests to me that your profile is corrupt and it is going
to be really difficult to find exactly what and where. Creating a new
profile may be the best solution.

However, if starting Word in Safe Mode (the /a switch) resolves the problem,
then it suggests an incompatible third party add-in. I would look in the
Word Start-up folder and see what has been installed.

See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProblemsStartingWord.htm to see if
one of the solutions points to the problem.

Thanks again... /a doesn't solve the problem--it just lets me know it's still
there as soon as I open a file; as opposed to waiting til the program runs
out of whatever it is that a work file provides and it tells me to save my
work and then freezes before I can. So I guess it's try a new user, maybe
just for word, since everything else seems to be just fine as is.
