I 've been having trouble with this Word for osX. One difficulty is removing
files from the 'work' menu. I try control/apple minus and nothing happens.
Any clues as to opther options?

From Word Help ("Remove a document from the Work menu")

1. Press CMD + OPTION + MINUS

so check that you're using the right shortcut

If that's not the problem, you may have inadvertently reassigned the
keyboard shortcut (it should be assigned to the
ToolsCustomizeRemoveMenuShortcut command) - you can assign it back using
Tools/Customize/Keyboard.
