Work Files & Suspect performance

I have noticed three things:
1. My Microsoft User Data folder has several Word Work Files, some are
called Word Work_A1, A2, A3, etc but some are called Word
Work_34141389, and like. All of them open a warning dialogue on double
clck saying they contain macros or customization-- but I cannot see
any macros in tools/macros menu, etc. I do not recall any significant
crashes or shutdowns with freezes, or ....
2. On closing my Word program I get a quick notice that Normal is
being saved and
3. Recently every so often I get a message saying, "Word is connecting
to the internet"

Should I be worried?

Hi--

1. The Word Work files are temporary files created as you work on a
document. Word is supposed to clean these up when you quit, or when the
document is saved, but sometimes they stick around. Close all documents
and quit Word, and you should be able to safely delete them. They are
not a sign of any significant problems, I don't think.

2. The dialog that Normal is being saved is also not
unusual--although--do you get it every time? Do you have to click OK,
or it is just a notice?

3. This one sounds weird--when does it happen? and where does the
message show up?

Questions for you--

4. exactly which versions of Word and OS?

5. did you ever create a new document and save it as a template named
Normal? at some point in the past, in order to customize your default
settings?
