Work Groups

I would like to delete computers from work groups. I have Windows Vista
64-bit on two computers and Windows Vista 32-bit on one computer.

First, this has nothing really to do with Microsoft Office, which is what
this newsgroup is usually for...so you may want to post to a Windows
newsgroup if the following doesn't help:

You can go to each computer and change the workgroup that it is a member of
..

Thank you but I do not think that we are talking about the same things. I am
not familiar with newsgroups. I was trying to setup a network between these
three laptops and somehow ended up with a work group instead. Now, I just
want these work groups to go away.

Err a peer-to-peer network, which is what you have uses Workgroups. Why are
you wanting this "workgroup" to go away, when it's the way you need to
connect between your computers?

Because the whole workgroup thing is not working. I cannot share printers or
files or anything else. It is not super important. It is just something that
I think I should be able to do but cannot figure it out searching Microsoft's
website.

Make sure that the Software Firewall on each computer allows free local
traffic. If you use 3rd party Firewall On, Vista/XP Native Firewall should
be Off, and the active Firewall has to adjusted to your Network IP numbers
on what is some time called the Trusted Zone (consult your 3rd Party
Firewall instructions.

What I meant was that this forum where you have posted this message is for
Microsoft Office topics. Networking computers isn't really part of Microsoft
Office.

That said, in Windows, the "workgroup" is the way to let computers on the
same network see each other. For example, if each computer on the same
network (your home broadband or wi-fi network) has the same "workgroup"
setting, such as HOME or SPARKY, then they will be able to see each other
and share files and printers located on each computer.

A printer could be shared in this way if it is connected to one of the
computers in the workgroup. Then the other computers in the workgroup can
see that printer, as long as the computer connected to the printer is
powered on.

If that's not enough info, try the Windows help, try a Google search for how
to network Windows computers in a workgroup, or try posting to one of the
Windows or networking forums.
