Work hours not adding up

I have a summary task with 3 sub task under it.
The "work" for the 3 task are as follows:

task A 2hrs.
task B 3hrs.
task C 3hrs.

Why am I geting total "work" of 11 hrs.? I understand why
I am gettign 3 hrs. for the duration, but don't undertsand
why I am not getting 8hrs. for the work (at the summary
level).

I's liek to add that there were two resources assigne with
less than 100% allocations to each, but I deleted that. I
found when I deleted the entire task and re-entered them
it was okay. But I have many adjustments to make, why
would this happen, and why should that affect the work, I
understand duration, but not work.

Has a resource been assigned to the summary task as well? That is one
explanation.
