"work offline" disappeared

For over a year the "work offline" option has been under my "File" heading in
Outlook, and all of the sudden, a couple of weeks ago, it just disappeared.
Now, I can't get outlook to work online, it is by default offline and I don't
know how to get it to switch...
help
