Work Outlook to phone

Okay Here is a long story hopefully short: - my company only allows VP's and
higher to get phones that will send and receive emails.

As you can imagine I do not have this functionality but have found a
solution which is okay (marginal). Full disclosure I have Outlook 2003 on the
dell laptop. I personally own a SprintPCS Palm Centro phone but will be
buying a new SprintPCS phone in December and want to be the correct phone.
What I do today is that on my work laptop I have installed the Sprint
Descktop Connector which takes work emails and sends it to my Palm Centro
phone's email application. This way the email is presentable on the Plam
Centro phone but the only hicup is that the work laptop must be left on. As
you can imagine this doesn't work good when I have the laptop turned off.

So now I read that there is an application within Outlook 2007 that has
"Outlook Mobile Service". If I got OT to upgrade me to Outlook 2007 could
there be a way that I could get the work emails sent to my phone? Or does
this application require that I know our server address, etc etc...
Obviously, IT will not tell me what that information is... Any help is
greatly appreciated.

Also if anyone has any other ideas on starting over with a new
carrier/phone/plan ... I am open for ideas...

The mobile service requires outlook to be running.

Are you using Exchange server? A rule forwarding mail (if the exchange
server is configured to allow it) would work better. Or, if MAP is enabled
on the server, configure the phone to access using IMAP.

My assumption is that our company uses exchange server but I am not sure.
Plus I dont want to call IT and ask them.. it will raise to many red flags...
Do I need to know for sure? Maybe I could be creative in asking?

Question: and this will show my ignorance. My work emails... most likely sit
on the companies server. Couldn't I or is there an application that I could
put on the server that could scrape my folder periodically for emails?

Most companies have in place IT security policies that limit access to the
company network and email server. Typically, there'll be a policy that
states explicity that company emails are NOT to be forwarded to personal
email accounts. In all likelihood mobile access is limited to the VP's as an
extension of this policy. Typically, the policy exists to ensure that
confidential information isn't inadvertently leaked.

Before you breach the barrier that currently exists, you should contact your
IT department to confirm that it is not in violation of any policy. I might
point out that if you move forward with this and information is
inadvertently leaked that your head may end up on the chopping block.

The only app that can 'scrape' the mail is POP3/IMAP, if they are enabled.
If you have web access and the phone supports web browsing, you could log
into web access and read the mail online.
