Work won't open - locks up computer

We installed microsoft office 2000 professional. All
programs work except Word. When we try to open the
program it freezes up and locks the computer. Does the
same thing if we try to open it indirectly. All we can do
is pull the plug on the computer and start over. We have
uninstalled and reinstalled - no success. HELP PLEASE.
