Workbook Window TOO LARGE

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC

Suddenly, when I launch Excel 2008, the windows are too large for my screen. New windows are okay vertically, but extend far off to the right of the screen. Old documents, when opened, cannot be resized because they extend both too far right and too far down! Other accounts on the same computer (G5 iMac) do NOT have this problem, so I have tried trashing prefs, but to no avail. No VIEW or WINDOW options help at all. Please, someone?

Have you tried: 1) double clicking on the window title bar; 2)choosing
Windows-arrange and checking windows of active document?

Yes, I tried that. I've tried every WINDOW option combination possible, and none of them made a difference.

Did figure out a sort of workaround: when the workbook is displayed, I choose "New Window", and that produces a copy which still extends far to the right, but does stop at the bottom, so I can drag over to the right side and slowly re-size by dragging the bottom-right corner.

Then I can do my work. But saving the new version doesn't save the window size, and I have to do it again each time I open it.

Well, I'm not sure what is wrong. But, after creating a new window and
sizing it, try closing the original window, then saving the file.

That's what I did. It didn't work.

So I:

• Threw out com.microsoft.Excel.plist -- didn't help
• Threw out com.microsoft.office.plist -- didn't help
• Copied com.microsoft.Excel.plist from the backup drive (everything is backed up each night) -- didn't help
• Copied com.microsoft.Excel.plist from another account on the same computer -- didn't help
