workbook within word changing to picture

I am having a problem with word 2003, I have a quote template which keeps
changing a excel workbook within this document to a picture which I cannot
work on. It does this after about ten minutes. I have turned autosave off but
it still happens. I have even tried recreating this document but the problem
still persists! can anyone help?
