Working Hours

Keri

I wonder if someone can shed some light on this problem I
have with changing the standard working hours it's driving
me potty.

I create a new project, no tasks have been inputed yet as
the first thing i want to do is change the project
calendar. The project calendar states that our working
hours are 8:00-17:00 but i want them to be 9:00-17:00. I
will be entering tasks that have durations of 1 hour, 30
minutes etc. so it is quite important that i change the
working hours.

I am choosing Tools - Change working time - Options -
changing the working hours from 8 to 9am and the hours per
day and per week and clicking set as default but when i go
back into my calendar all of the days are stil showing as
an 8am start unless i highlight them all and change them.
Is this right?

I tried to create a new base calendar but it just adopted
the same 8am start of the standard one??

Help help I'm going insane!!

Thanking you in anticipation.

Hi,

The mechanism is fully explained in
http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm
Faq 5: Default Working Hours

The role of Tools, Options, Calendar, default times is essentially different
that what is entered in Tools, Change Working time. Both can be set
independently from one another.

Hi Keri,

I works OK on my PC. Give it another try - click on this
URL:http://www.mvps.org/project/ and then click on the FAQs box on the left
or MVP FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on:)

Keri,

Your initial modification of the Standard Project Calendar was
absolutely correct. The next step then is to change the project
default. Go to Tools>Change Working Time, select the headers for M
through F on the calendar to select all of the working days, then
change the first "From" time from 8:00 to 9:00. It sounds like you
were on that page, but didn't change this one setting. I know it
doesn't seem to make sense, but you have to change the Start time in
both places; they are not interdependent.

Sarah,

When you think it through, it can make a lot of sense.
I know scores of companies who have different working times on different
days of the week.
In that case, what would be the default Project NEEDS to make a
day-only-date usable since it does all the calculation in minutes?

I understand that, Jan, but for people who are just starting out in
Project, it is often confusing and initially seems illogical for these
two not to be connected.

I do understand, Sarah.
I too discovered it the hard way
But of course, with hindsight..
