Works 2003

A friend is using XP Home and Works 2003 as a word processor. When he saves
the file and then tries to open it, it's unreadable. It displays characters
as ASCII or similar characters. When he brings the document to another
computer it opens fine. Things have been working good for the past 2 yrs and
this started about 1 week ago. He has uninstalled the program and
re-installed it and is getting the same results. Any suggestions?

There is no such animal as Works 2003. If he has Works Suite 2003, then he
is probably using Word 2002 as the word processor. A file created by Word
2002 will very likely not open in Works.

Checked with him and he looked at the disk: Microsoft Works 7.0 and Microsoft
Money 2003 Standard. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks.

Ah, okay. Now, when he tries to open the Works file, is he using the same
version of Works?

Yes, it's from the same computer. He saves a document and when he tries to
open it on the same computer, all he gets is garbage. He tried to open it at
work and it worked fine.

Is he opening it from within Works? If not, if he's just double-clicking on
it in Windows Explorer, it's possible the file association is incorrect and
it's trying to open in some other program. Also, is he saving to the hard
drive or a floppy?
