Works 9 Upgrade not wkg so can't install Office Standard 2007 Upgr

Bought a new HP TouchSmart, which comes with Vista Home Premium (64 bit) and
Works 9. I am trying to upgrade to Office Standard 2007 (Upgrade). Per the
Office (Upgrade) requirements, I downloaded the Works 9 update via the MSFT
site, but when I go to install it, it asks for the Works CD, which I don't
have since Works came loaded on the machine.

Any one else had/having this issue?

I have the same issue. Our computers have a chat function in which we can
contact HP and chat with a (foreign) technician. I did that and was advised
that because we have Works pre-installed, Word will not work. I asked whether
removing Works would resolve the issue. I was told "it should." If, after
removing Works, it still didn't work, I was advised that our computers also
have the ability to reload original software by clicking into Help and
Support and then clicking into Recovery Manager. I verified that these
programs exist, but I haven't tried them yet. I came to this site to see
whether anyone had any other ideas or experiences.

I have the same issue. Our computers have a chat function which allows us to
chat with a tech person. I did that and was advised that because our
computers shipped with Works pre-installed Word will not work. I asked
whether removing Works will allow Word to work and was told "it should". I
asked what to do, if after removing Works, Word didn't work. I was advised
that our computers have the ability to re-load pre-existing software by
clicking into Help and support, and then into Recovery Manager. I verified
that these functions exist, and claim that they will re-load original
software. I haven't tried it yet, but came to this forum first to determine
whether anyone else had any other ideas or experiences.

Well , how should I out it.Hommmm. OK. You need the Works CD for the Upgrade. The Works that is installed from HP presently on your system does not qualify since it is an OEM version bundled with the OS.

You have 2 choices. Return the Office Standard 2007and buy a Retail version instead of an Upgrade

or

find or purchase a Works CD

This is a known issue, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943290/en-us for
further information

Also this lists the qualifying upgrade products
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/suites/FX101754511033.aspx

In the right hand column it shows that Works 9 (whether OEM or not and most
is OEM) is a qualifier. If it isn't installed you would need the install
CD. If you have any previous trial software (Office) it also needs to be
uninstalled prior to running the installation.

If this doesn't fix the issue, post the exact messages you are receiving and
exactly what and how you are attempting to install when you get the message.
