Works and Office

Can any versions of MS works be installed on a win 98
machine that already has office 2000 installed. I
thought there were compatibility issues, but haven't
found anything online indicating this.

There are compatibility issues since both contain Word.
The basic advice is to install earlier version first, then later, ensuring
you use custom install method, and install into differing Folders.
Any shortcuts for earlier version should be renamed, prior to later version
install. i.e. Wordxx not Word
However I ask for what reason to install both?
