works spreadsheet lost

Every now and then when I am saving a spreadsheet file,
I'll get an error message saying something about file
space is full ... If I hit cancel - the file is lost. If
I try to save it to a disk instead of my computer -
sometimes it works, but once it ate my original file on my
disk along with the one on my c drive. Send error message
to error log comes up - but WHERE DOES IT GO? Any help is
appreciated.
