Worksheet default values

Please help! When working in Excel both headings in the
column and row areas are numerical, making it difficult
to do simple addition using the SUM feature. How do I
change the top column headings to alpha?

On the MenuBar,
Tools > Options > General Tab
Uncheck R1C1 Reference Style
