worksheet delay response

When opening an existing excel file for the first time
there is a 30 second delay before any changes are seen or
can be used. The delay does not occur in a new excel file
just in existing ones. Any suggestions on how to rid my
existing files of this problem?

Alice,

When you open an existing workbook, your computer has to
do a lot of work... like load the file into memory, look
at everything in the workbook and figure out how to
display it.

When you open a new one, it is fast because it is just
loading the blank workbook template.

So, it is normal for there to be some time to load an
existing file, but 30 seconds does sound kinda long. Some
things to thing about:

How big are the workbooks? Obviously large, complex files
should take longer to load then small files.

What is your processor speed, amount of RAM, other
programs running etc? If you have a low end PC you can
expect slow response.

What about the Hard Drive? Is it slow, nearly full or
fragmented?

So, my guess is your prblem is not Excel related.

Hope that helps,

Jill
