worm holes

I have a workbook with four sheets.

Each sheet contains a different treatment (involving calculations and
formula) based on a common set of variables.

At present, variables are stated at top of sheet 1.

Sheets 2,3, and 4, each have a simple '='sheet1'!D3' type reference so
that values for variables can be seen on whichever sheet is being
worked upon. But to change the variables, I have to go back to sheet
1.

Is there a method I could change the variables on any sheet and have
the changes instantly reflected in all the others? In effect, the
cells from sheet one 'bore' through all four sheets.

Thanks in advance, any help/expertise appreciated.

No, the cells in a sheet cannot 'send' data anywhere. Formulas allow content
to be looked up from another cell in order to display the content from the
source cell. What you're asking is to be able to fill the same mug from
either the top or the bottom depending on which end happens to be up.

There may be other methods of attaining your objective but you'd need to
provide a far more detailed description of the nature of your data as well
as what that objective is.

Bob,

I suppose that's an accurate analogy: filling the mug from both ends!

Although I'd thought of it more like a shared online Calendar where
anyone can make changes and all users see it - no priorities assigned.

A more detailed description: Spreadsheet analyzes various scenarios
for financing a solar PV installation.

On first page, user variables can be entered, including interest rate,
term length, system cost, estimated electric bill savings, tax
credits, rebates, incentives, etc.

Below all this on the first page is the currently favored finance
plan, laid out as presentably as possible and using common formulas,
NPV, PMT, IPMT etc

Subsequent pages have different finance plans (eg. accelerated
amortization etc), all sharing user defined data from sheet 1, which
is displayed on each page in cells linked to sheet 1.

Trouble is, when deeply immersed in sheet 3 (or 2, 4), the temptation
is to want to change values displayed for starting conditions in the
cells they're displayed, without having to jump to another sheet.

No, Split cannot display separate sheets. What you may want to try is
Window> New Window, then Window> Arrange - Windows of Active Workbook
either Tiled, Horizontal or Vertical. You can then display different sheets
of the book in each window & click back & forth from one to the other.
