I have office 2003. I cannot open a wpd file in word. How can I open the file

Word 2003 should be able to open files created even by the most recent
version of WordPerfect (12). If not, then you probably need to install
additional converters. First, try Start - Settings - Add/Remove Programs -
MS Office 2003 and ensure that all of the text converters have been
installed. If they have, then try the MS Office Converter Pack, available
for free download here:

I open word, click open file, then go to where the wpd file is, then double
click on it and it is at this point I get the error

You have to select the format type.. the box for this is underneath the file
name box.. select WordPerfect from the drop down list..

I hate to sound stupid but what and where is the name box 'underneath the
file?" I right click the file, properties, open with, word perfect is not
there.

You have to select the format type.. the box for this is underneath the file
name box.. select WordPerfect from the drop down list..

Open MS Word.. now go to FILE - OPEN.. use the BROWSE button to get to the
location of the wpd file.. it will not show until you do the following.. the
box underneath this one specifies file types.. select WordPerfect format..
now the file will show.. click OK.. the file should load..
