Wrapping predeccessors/ successors

Hi,

I hope you can help
I have a medium size project 300 tasks, which have lots of predeccessors
(P)and sucessors (S) , when i try to print A3 showing my task, duration %c/t
and P& S there is no space to see the Gant chart.
I thought I would "wrap" the description text ( which gives me wider lines)
which is great but the P & S dont move down accordingly to allow me to
shorten the column width

Any Ideas would be great

thanks

You can only print so much on a given size piece of paper and still
have it readable. You can downsize the font a bit, you can narrow the
margins some, but in the end, you can't put more than a certain amount
of information on a sheet of A3. It's called "reality". You, or
someone, has to decide how you want to present the information in a
readable manner. I've been handed more than a few Project schedules
and XL spreadsheets where they had been reduced so much I couldn't
read them (this back when I didn't wear glasses and had 20/20 vision).
Sounds like some of that information has to go somewhere else, like a
second table printed out separately.

Hope this helps in your world.

Dave,

i think youre right but, if the whole project is highlighted and the row
width is increased to allow the description text to wrap downwards Why doesnt
the Predeccesors and successors do the same ??

It needs a space on which to wrap. A trick I've used for this is to change
the Windows List Separator to a space. Use the Control Panel/Regional
Settings for this... I recommend changing it back after you print as some
programs may have issues with a space as the list separator.

Andy,
Text "wrapping" is determined by the Windows system default delimiter,
which is normally the space character in the text string. The task name
field typically has spaces so it will wrap. The Predecessor and
Successor fields do no, hence they won't wrap.

You could change your system default delimiter to be a comma but that
would likely create havoc with other applications.

You might want to review your linking structure and make sure all task
dependencies are in fact real. Some users link tasks that are not really
dependent, or they get carried away with unnecessary links. Another
option, is to break tasks with multiple links into multiple tasks and
then distribute the links accordingly.

Hope this helps.

John, I think you got your "commas" and "spaces" mixed up<g>...

Jim,
Thanks, at least I got part of it right, wrapping does queue on the
space character. But the part about the default delimiter was wrong. Too
much hurry and not enough thought.
