Wrapping problem in Word 2003

I am having a problem with what I suppose is wrapping. In a Word document I
have several situations where a sentence in a paragraph ends quite close to
the right margin. When I put in the usual 2 spaces after the period one of
those spaces ends up at the start of the following line. I can find nothing
in the formatting or styles to explain this wierdness. Any suggestions
would be appreciated.

The problem is that double spacing is neither usual nor desirable with
proportionally spaced fonts and a space will allow the line to break. This
is a throwback to the days of the manual typewriter. You could replace both
spaces with nonbreaking spaces, or better still use only one space.

On the Compatibility tab of Tools | Options, make sure you don't have "Wrap
trailing spaces to the next line" checked.

Thanks. That option is not checked, yet the 2d trailing space is getting
moved to the start of the next line. Based on Graham's answer I guess I'll
have change t fit the software. Yes, the 2 space thing is from the
typewriter days. Hard to believe that with all the other ways Word has
bulked up, mostly with stuff that neither I nor 96.89 percent of users
understand or perhaps even know about, it would not accomodate something as
simple (OK, perhaps antediluvian) as two spaces after sentence punctuation.

If you don't have that Compatibility option checked (for the document in
question, as Compatibility options are document-specific), then this
absolutely should not be happening. Short of a line break, nonbreaking
space, or some other oddity that you might be able to spot if you display
nonprinting characters, the only explanation I can thing of is that the
document is corrupt.

Ah so. I should have thought of that! After all, I see the problem
happening only in a single document rather than as a matter of course. I
shall fix that problem promptly. Thanks for your help!
