We are experiencing an intermittent problem with users running Office
2003 SP3 (under XP) and saving files to our EMC Celerra. We haven't
conclusively determined if users of other versions of Office have this
problem.
They can open word documents and write to their networked home directories
fine, but periodically some users will find themselves unable to save as the
document, and give the user an error saying that the document is read only.
They can use "Save as" to save the file to a new name.
According to the ACL setting on the file, the user does indeed have write
privileges on the file. Restarting office will correct the problem, but it
will eventually recur. We do not experience this problem with wordpad, or
notepad.
After reviewing a network dump, EMC has advised there is a race condition
on the client which is causing it to behave improperly.
