Wrkbk Protect w/o Dialog Box

Is there a way to protect a workbook from being modified, as in
read-only version, without the workbook opening with prompts. Is there
code availabe to bipass the read only prompt, by actually choosing the
read only button for the individual so that they never encounter it.
