wrong code?

Help! I am trying to install Office V.x on my daughter's new Macbook
and even though it seems to install just fine, when she then clicks on
Word, she gets a message prompting her to enter the code, which we
did, CAREFULLY NUMEROUS TIMES :) and we are getting a message saying
we have the wrong code. I really want to just call a tech support
person but there doesn't appear to be any phone number for that in the
documentation. My daughter's leaving for college in a couple of days
and needs this software!! Please help if you can!! Thanks. ~Diane

The CD key and the Product ID are two different things. Be sure you are
using your CD key.

It's possible this key has been disabled because Office sees it as a pirated
key. Rarely, Office will just balk and you will have to get Microsoft to
issue you a new key. Sorry, I don't have their phone number.

My advice is to forget Office X. It's End of Life software. It's not updated
for the new Daylight Saving Time for example. No further updates will be
issued. You can get the Office 2004 Student & Teacher's version for less
than $150 with a free upgrade to Office 2008. Check Amazon for S&T versions.

Check your local phone book or the Microsoft website for the phone number.

Any Microsoft phone number will get you to the correct department.

And as Diane says, check that you are using the real key from the orange
sticker on the back of the CD case :)

Cheers

Okay... I am using the "product key" on the orange sticker on the back
of the box, and that's what is causing it to say "wrong key" --
another question then... I did call Microsoft and they said (as Diane
mentioned) that this product is no longer supported so they can't give
me a new key... is this salvageable at all?

I know this isn't what you want to hear [and I don't blame you:)] but the
characters in the keys can be quite deceptive - it sometimes requires every
conceivable combination of l's versus 1's (that first is a letter, the
second a number) & O's versus 0's (which are less often the culprit, but can
still be a PITA).

Another possibility - where/when did you obtain the software? If someplace
like ebay or elsewhere on the web, it wouldn't be the first time somebody
stuck a CD in another's wrapper & passed it off as "new"... If it's a copy
you've had for a while is it possible it may have gotten switched with
another copy accidentally?

Did the Macbook ever have the Office 2004 Test Drive installed? If you
installed X without a complete & proper Removal of the Test Drive that could
be the cause of the problem. If so, let us know.

Technically, "No". If Microsoft won't give you a new key, then there's
nothing we can do, either.

In practice, all you have to do is find someone who has a valid key for
Office vX and slip them $5.00 :)

Sorry...
