wrong information in task reminder

When I set a reminder for a task to appear several days before the due date,
it gives wring information.

ie In the calendar I have an appointment on Feb 27 and ask for a 1 week
reminder. If I haven't dismissed it by Feb 24 the reminder says "due in 3
days"

I have a task due Feb 27 and starting Feb 20 and ask for the reminder to
appear on Feb 20 then on Feb 24 the reminder says "4 days overdue". How can I
make it recognise that in fact it is "due in 3 days"? A reminder on the due
date is too late and one saying overdue is terribly confusing.

Unfortunately that's by design according to MS. I've bugged it before and
again and all I get is that answer. It's not at all intuitive to me either.
