wrong patch installed

I recently tried to update norton on my home computer by
installing a new virus patch. However, I chose the wrong
patch version to install. I'm operating Windows 2000 xp
(internet expl 5.0) but I installed the patch for Internet
expl. 6.1 (in think). I keep getting an explorer error
and I can not go any future. How can I get rid of what I
loaded since I can't get past the login screen? Any
suggestions?

Try posting this to a Symantec forum - this group supports Office from
Microsoft Office products, which this issue has nothing to do with.

I suggest you post this problem in an Internet Explorer newsgroup. You will
get a better response. This newsgroups is for questions concerning
Microsoft Office. Try the one below:
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5.setup

There are many more Internet Explorer 5 newsgroups. They all start with
"microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5"

By the way, which OS are you running, Windows 2000, or Windows XP?
