WSS with Project Server AD Groups

E

Erin

does anyone know where the sync is between WSS and Project Server Groups? I
would of thought that if you were in say the "project managers" AD Group for
project Server it would also reflect you in WSS -- however I'm not having
these people in there -- is there a way to sync these up or do i need to
manuall grab them from the address book adn bring them in? THanks in
advance,

Erin

Hi Erin,

A couple of things...

1. Any resources that are added to the project are (by default)
automatically added to the that project's SharePoint Project Workspace
on the condition that they are using Windows Authentication in Project
Server 2003.

2. If you have other users that need access to project's SharePoint
Project Workspace, then you will need to manually add then, again on the
condition that they are using Windows Authentication in Project Server
2003.

To manually add Windows Authenticated Users to a Project Workspace:
(this procedure assumes that you have Admin Rights to the workspace)

1. Logon to PWA, and click on Projects in the Top Menu

2. At the Project Center view, click on the information cell (column
with the blue circle and white i) that corresponds to the project
workspace that you want opened. Do not click on the hyperlink.

3. In the navigation menu, click "Go to selected project workspace".
This will open a new IE window to the SharePoint Server.

4. In the Project Workspace window, click on Site Settings in the top
menu.

5. In the Site Settings page, under Administration, click Manage Users.

6. In the Manage Users page, click Add Users.

7. In Step 1, add the users using the DOMAIN\Username, in Step 2
determine which Site Groups to associate the user. However, DO NOT PICK
ANY SITE GROUP that has (Microsoft Office Project Server) in the name.
If you do then the next automatic synchronization (done when Assignments
to the project are published or re-publish) will clear your user
accounts that you have just added. Select only Reader, Contributor, Web
Designer, or Administrator. Then click Next.

8. On the next page, in Step 3 verify that the correct user credentials
are listed. In Step 4 you can decide if the user receives an email or
not. Then click Finish.

9. You're done!

Good Luck

Rolly,

What I am doing is within PWA - going to the "connect to SP server" page and
then clicking on that main WSS link to view the users that are there. I have
sync'd AD up with our Team Leads group to give them permissions to view only
what they need, etc -- but how do i change the group it sync's with regarding
WSS as a whole - not each individual workspace -- It appears it's now
sync'ing with the Project Managers group which I see listed on the page Site
Provisioning Settings
__________________________________________________________
Automatically add a new Project Web Access user into a cross-site group
called Project Manager (Project Server) on the Public Documents site
(http://hovpr001:90/sites/MS_ProjectServer_PublicDocuments).
(Users in this role can create new document libraries, upload new
documents to the libraries, edit documents, and delete documents)

I would like to have ideally the group Team Leads in PWA sync'd with Readers
in each WSS site and the Project Managers sync'd with Project Managers in
WSS. Is this possible?

Thanks,

Erin
