WSS works in Windows 2000 but not in XP?

Project Server 2003 SP2 & WSS SP2, new install. The URLs for WSS and Project
Server have been added as Trusted Sites and the Default permissions (Low)
selected. In IE 6 SP1 on Windows 2000 Pro, you can click the link to
associate an Issue with a Task and the list of tasks comes up.

In XP SP1, a dialog box appears that says SharePoint could not contact the
Project Server and that cross-domain settings should be checked and the URLs
should be added to Trusted Sites. Both Project Server and WSS are on the
same server in different web sites with different IP addresses.

The XP IE settings are identical to W2K Pro but it won't work on any XP SP1
computer we tried.

If I do the same thing on the WSS/Project server, it works OK.

Any guesses would be appreciated.

Hey Ray,

I assume you are the same Ray that was having some problems with his
installation over the last week or so? If so - welcome back :)

Anyway - this is a long shot, but its a hunch and i think it may work.

The setting under Admin --> Server Configuration --> Server Intranet
URL should be configured to point towards your project server site, and
you can maybe try playing around with the Extranet URL as well.

I know its not very helpfull, but its a bit of a murky situation... :p

Yep, it's me again. :)

They are both the same, the FQDN name. I tried messing around with them to
no avail. They appear to be just for the links in the notification emails,
if I'm looking in the correct place.

Indeed, it's really me again! I am one of the few people still on W2K
because I don't want to take the time to reinstall everything. I finally
figured out that only members of the local admin group can access WSS. Even
if someone tries to go to the home page, they get prompted for domain
credentials but nothing works. The WSSAdmin account is a local admin on the
Project/WSS server.

I'm going to install WSS on a spare server and see how it reacts.

BTW, I also fixed the problem where I was always getting prompted for
credentials. I simply reset the Trusted Sites zone to its default of Low and
it magically started working.

Take care,

Ray
