(Not sure if this is a SharePoint issue, or a problem with upgrading PS2003
to PS2007, so my apologies in advance for cross-posting to the SharePoint
newslist as well...)
I'm attempting to perform a WSS 2.0 to 3.0 upgrade as part of an upgrade of
our MS Project Server from v2003 to v2007, and I'm running into a Sharepoint
error.
The server I'm trying to upgrade is running Win2003 Server SP2, SQL Server
2000 SP3, WSS 2.0 SP2, and Project Server 2003 SP2. I'm attempting to do a
gradual upgrade on the same server so I can have the old environment
(WSS2/PS2003) running alongside the new environment (WSS3/PS2007) until I can
get all projects & sites migrated. I installed WSS3 with the gradual
migration option. I've successfully run the migration prescan on the WSS2
sites and no errors were thrown.
When I try to run the Sharepoint Products & Technologies Configuration
Wizard, I'm getting the following error: "SharePoint PRoducts and
Technologies canno be configured. The current installation mode does not
support SKU to SKU upgrades because there exists an older version of Windows
Sharepoint Services that must be upgraded first."
In looking at the log files, I'm seeing values that it is trying to do a
B2B_UPGRADE, V2V_INPLACE_UPGRADE, and V2V_GRADUAL_UPGRADE. There is then a
message that reads: "The setuptype is a sku2sku inplce upgrade and there
exists a wssv2 connection string and not a wssv3 connection string. This
means the server needs to be upgraded first and this should have never been a
sku2sku upgrade." This would seem to present a problem, since it is my
understanding that I need to use the SharePoint Products & Technologies
wizard in order to complete the upgrade. I've gone over all of the
installation guides and can't find where I might have missed a step.
Is there something else that I need to run in order to make the v3 server
the big dog on the box? I'm seeing conflicting information between the
PS2007 upgrade guides and some other MS postings as to whether or not a
gradual upgrade of both WSS and PS on the same server is possible.
Thanks in advance for any help.
