X axes scale, help!

I was using excel to graph data points. My problem is that the data
points are not taken at regular time intervals, and yet excel places
them at regular intervals along the x-axis. For example, the distance
between 14 hours and 27 hours (two sequential data points) is the same
as the distance between 10.5 hours and 14 hours. This is the same
whether I graph by time, or by number. The only way I can get it to
scale properly is when I graph by date, in which case incorrect values
are displayed beneath the axis. Does anyone have insights?

Thank you.

What kind of chart are you making? If a line chart, change to
XY-Scatter. Line charts assume equal divisions.
