Several online spreadsheets (Google, NumSum, iRows, Zoho) try to
compete with Microsoft Excel. It's a known fact that Excel has some
serious limitations when it comes to collaboration. Microsoft provides
SharePoint which is not easy to manage and maintain. Existing online
spreadsheets are really great for collaboration but a user needs to
learn a new tool which also lacks lots of functionality compared to
Excel.
What about putting online functionality behind Microsoft Excel?
Xcellery by Collaborall provides a service implementing such a hybrid
solution. Xcellery let's you share and edit spreadsheets online using
Microsoft Excel. Every change is automatically propagated to the
collaborators and you don't have to resend new versions of the file
anymore. Edit conflicts get resolved and changes can be rolled back to
any previous revision. Last but not least it also let's you work
offline and synchronize back later. This all works with zero
installation and is available as a free service.
