Xferring Calendaring Info??

Hi all,

I'm a Newbie with OL, so be kind....... ;-)

This past weekend our organisation upgraded our NT4 Server to Win2003
SBS, and added Exchange to our network.

Under the previous NT4/no-Exchange structure, our users would run OL
as a stand-alone application on their XP workstations, mainly for the
Calendar.

I have one user who - for reasons unknown to me - has been using a
local User Account on his XP box. That is, he's not been
authenticating to the network.

Consequently, his OL2002 data has been stored in a local User profile.

I'm now attempting to migrate his local OL data into a new, *network*
account profile. The prob is: I'm not sure where the local data
lives!

I've scanned his hard drive for *.pst files..... none. Given that
this user's only using OL2002's Calendar function, I suspect that
explains the absence of a *.pst file (is that a reasonable
deduction???).

Anyroad, under C:\Docs & Settings\[username]\App
Data\Microsoft\Outlook, there are only 4 files for this user:
OUTCMD.DAT, OUTLOOK.FAV, OUTLOOK.SRS & OUTLOOK.NK2

Assuming that these files represent the user's Calendar data, I've
copied them to the corresponding 'App Data' folder for his new network
account. I then log on to this account, launch OL..... and it fails,
giving the following error:

"The location messages are delivered to has changed for this user
profile. To complete this operation, you may need to copy the
contents of the old Outlook folders to the new Outlook folders."

Obviously, my copying of his files was *not* appropriate.

Can someone shed some light on this for me please? Essentially, I'd
just like to know where his Calendar data is stored locally, and the
best strategy for migrating it to another account.

Much appreciated,

Jason Paris

The Calendar data would have to be in a .PST file if the user wasn't using
Exchange (unless he was using offline folders). Since he's using Windows
XP, make sure you search within hidden and system folders when looking for
..PST files. They could be anywhere, but the default locations are usually
in hidden folders.

If you still have access to the old 'Local Account' logon
as that user, got to Outlook 2002 and export the calendar
info to a *.pst file on a known folder, then logon as your
new network user and impot it from the just created file.

Good Luck

Dear Jocelyn & Antonio,

Many thanks for the information.

I discovered that the XP Search tool (which I was using to locate the
*.PST files) was not showing *hidden* files.

Once corrected, the export/import worked wonderfully.

Thanks again!
