XL 2007 SP1, Crashes When Editting Chart Title

M

MJ

This started just two days ago and I do not see any new MS updates that might
have changed anything.

I have workbooks (XL 2003 and XL 2007) that I am now unable to edit the
titles on charts. If I attempt to edit, XL crashes.

This may be an over simplistic question, how can I edit these title without
crashing XL? Is there a recently released update/patch that could be causing
it?

Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

I just experienced the same problem - and it occurs on other computers
running Excel 2007. So reinstallation will not fix the issue. Other ideas?

You could try an un-install of Office, reboot, run the temp file deleter at
http://www.add-ins.com/temp_file_deleter.htm, then re-install. Test
immediately after installing and before installing any updates. And after
the SP1 update.

Agh - I have exactly the same problem! :(

I have been developing this spreadsheet for months, but now it is crashing
left right and centre.

Excel 2007 crashes if I click on ANY title on my XY chart - the chart title,
the X-axis title, or the Y-axis title.

More accurately, I can click on the titles, but then if I try to do anything
else Excel instantly crashes. For example, if I press DELETE to delete the
selected title, it crashes. If I click elsewhere in my spreadsheet to move
the cursor to a different cell, it crashes.

As MJ says, the problem is not sporadic - it happens 100% of the time.

Clicking on other parts of my chart does not cause any problems. I can click
on the format area, either of the two series, or the axes - no prob.

I have tried going back to previous versions of the spreadsheet, including
recovered versions, but all of them exhibit the same crashing problem.

This is a nightmare - this spreadsheet is the result of hours and hours of
work!

I have SP1 and all the latest updates. Please please please can somebody
help with this? Clearly it is not an isolated problem.

I would be very happy to email a copy of my spreadsheet to somebody at
Microsoft to help them diagnose the problem.

Thanks in advance....

Hi LiquidEyes,

Jan, many thanks for the response. I've sent you an email with the
spreadsheet attached. I wonder if you could just let me know if you have
received it?

Cheers,

Hi LiquidEyes,

I have seen a report with the same issue, that user reported the problem only
occurs when he has more than one window to the same workbook open. CLosing hte
extra window(s) prevented the crash from happening.

Jan you are right!

I always have dual windows when using this document - I have sheet 1 (my
main table of data) in the upper window, and sheet 2 (which contains the
chart) in the lower window. This is so that I can change the data and
instantly see the changes reflected in the chart.

Closing the extra window is not really a satisfactory solution, but thanks
for suggesting the workaround. I can indeed close window 2 each time I wish
to edit the chart titles.

Unfortunately I have to be very careful not to click the chart titles
accidentally when using my spreadsheet from day to day!

I trust Microsoft will be looking at fixing this bug?

Many thanks for your help,
L
