XP and USB 2.0 card readers

I see I'm not the only one having a hard time installing my card reader. I've got an Asus p4pe BP mother board, P4 2.5ghz, 512mb ram, XP home edition. All of my drivers, bios, etc are updated but xp fails to install the card reader. I can still access photos from the card but there is the yellow check mark in device manager and the wizard says "cannot install this device" volume label, syntax is incorrect- or something to that effect. this is the 2nd usb 2.0 card reader I have tried. The other was a sandisk and on their web-site they listed detailed instructions for deleting specific registry entries, re-booting, and successfully installing their reader but I tried everything and nothing changed. Any experts out there? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure why you posted this to a Word Newsgroup? However, I didn't need
to install any driver for my card reader. XP sees it as just a removable
hard drive. This is the same for my USB2 Memory Stick too. Neither require
drivers in XP.

The only suggestion I can make is have you installed all Windows XP patches
and servicepacks as the original XP didn't recognise USB2 (as it wasn't
around then). One of the (many) patches that have been released for XP
includes the USB2 enabler.
