XP doc imaging OCR error

on win 98, w/Epson 2400 scanner, using XP document
imaging: pages scan into doc imaging and can save as tif,
but cannot send to word: red X error pops up and
says "Server threw an exception." cannot find any info on
this online in MSKB or anywhere else. one article said it
was an anti-virus generated error, but it happens with or
w/o virus software running.
