xp, office 2003 migration, office files not coping/locking machine

ok, I have various ppt and .xls files that wont even copy on to a new
machine. files open fine on a 2k w/office 2k machine. If recieved in an
email, just 'selecting' the email locks outlook and cantt be killed in task
manager. if accessed from a network share, they crash/lock up the
program(excel, ppt) if placed on a floppy and copied to the new machine,
they wont copy. file is accessed but not copied. tried drag and drop, and a
cli copy and xcopy. nothing works. same if trying to copy from network
share.

any ideas?
