xp office disappears after reinstalling.. and reinstalling ..

I have purchased Office XP pro and now have had to
reinstall it about 6 times. The install goes OK and I have
activated the licence however it then disappears. When I
try to open Word or Excel etc a message window comes up
telling me that "Microsoft XXX has not been installed for
the current user. Please run setup to install the
application"

What can be done?? I am getting fed up trying to maintain
something that should not be happenind

Yep, got that .. but only one user ... user profiles not
selected. Passwords option set to default "all users of
this computer use the same preferences and desktop
settings"

Any other suggestions.
