XP Office WORD

This morning I lost functionality to "SAVE AS" in Word? It works in Excel. I
just get the hour glass and it does not open to create a new file name.
Coincidentally???? I lost the ability to type in a URL in Explorer this
morning as well. I type it in and hit return and nothing happens. I went to
the Microsoft "update" site and verified that all of my software in upto
date. When i did this i noticed that something had been updated this morning
in my auto update ?

Any Ideas. Should I restore to yesterday when everything worked?

Same here..but I'm using Microsoft Word 2002 w/ XP. It also happens in Excel
- I can only access files through windows explorer. But the problems first
started when I tried to "save as."
And, like everyone else here, it happened after I did installed the
security release....

I happened to me also. I rolled the computer back to before the security
update and it all works fine now. The security update will have to wait. I'm
going to sacrifice functionality of some very expensive software because it.
I need to be able to use my Office software the way it was intended. What
were they thinking?? Maybe a little bit more testing would have been helpful.

Can you describe exactly what update it is that has caused these problems?
I'd like to report them.

I'm not sure which one exactly caused the issue, it was one of the group
offered today, yesterday. There were a group of 6 I believe. In another
discussion, located here

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...&p=1&tid=1fa5ddba-015c-45f7-b4fe-24fd199ee668

it was referred to as MS06-015 but I don't know which of the group that was.
All I know for sure is cause and effect.. updates installed and Word and
Excel won't save or open any file directly.. with them removed, the system
rolled back, they work again. So, till that's solved I won't be updating.
Thanks for any help you can get for us.

FYI MS06-015 is KB908531. Uninstalling this from Add/Remove programs has
fixed the problem on our machines.

Thanks for the follow-up. I haven't had any success in getting more info on
this but will continue to pursue it. As fate would have it, Automatic
Updates offered me the same updates last night. I said yes to downloading
them but will be chary of installing the one you reference!

You might be OK... we've got machines here with the Hotfix installed which
don't have the problem. I haven't yet worked what the difference is between
those machines affected and those not.

As the Hotfix fixed a Windows Explorer vulnerability, it might be advisable
to install it and then uninstall it only if you have a problem.

I have it installed but don't have the problems noted.
I am operating WindowsXP64, though.

And I'm using Windows 2000. I have subsequently read that MS is aware of the
problem and working on a solution. FWIW, I okayed the download shortly
before shutting down last night and haven't seen any indication that the
download carried on today (I was gone most of the day, so it could have
proceeded unimpeded over my DSL connection). Hmm.
