XP Outlook 2000 hangs & sometimes won't open & won't close unless I reboot

XP Sometime if a click on Outlook it hangs & won't open
Then everything slows up & i click again & again finally I
have to alt del & nothing shows in the Task manager box so
I shut down then a load of Outlooks appear (abouth the
same amount as I clicked trying to open it!!
I think there is sssssssssssomething wrong with the
Starter motor???
