XP - Paint Transparency not working

J

Jeri

Hi, I recently upgraded to the XP OS from Windows 2000.
Used to be able to uncheck Draw Opaque and set the
transparency color in Image Attributes using the Paint
that came with 2000. Now, I can not get icons to be
transparent. When I uncheck Draw Opaque, there is still a
white box around the icon image when I view the bitmap.
And the option of setting the transparency color in Image
Attributes is gone. (I need to create icons in .gif
format.) Any suggestions?

Hey Jeri,

I recently had this problem when I had to go back to a restore point.

Changing to large icons, applying, and then back to normal icons
seemed to get Windows to reload and redraw the icons and clear up the
problem.

If you're not sure where that is just follow these steps:
• Go to display properties (right click on the desktop and select
properties)
• Select the Settings tab
• Click on the Effects button
• Check off Use Large Icons and hit OK
• Hit Apply (when I did this the large icons had proper transparency)
• Go back to Effects and uncheck the Use large icons checkbox and hit
OK to all open windows.

Hope that helps!
Matt
