XP -S1 update causes failure of MS WORD 2000

After requesting download of Windows XP - S1, my
microsoft word 2000 freezes and will not start. I have
removed it from the system and re-installed and still the
problem persists. I have scanned my system with Macfee
7.0 and found no bugs. Any thoughts???
