XP Small Business

I have a PC purchased through Dell and when I go on to
the Windows Update page it comes up with a list of
updates that it says are recommended but cannot load them
until I load Service Pack 1, I click to do this and it
says it is downloaded but needs to be instaled. When I
try to instal it it asks for the CD XP PRO with Front
Page to be inserted. I don't have this I have a CD which
is Office XP Small Business which is doesn't accept and
cancels the installation and I cannot then complete any
others updates. I have contacted Dell who said the
Service Pack 1 I am trying to load is the wrong one but
there is only 1 for XP, so I rung them back and they said
it must already be loaded. I have looked in my programs
and cannot see anything to say whether it is or not and
they also said about 'Proplus' but I can't find this
either. As I am very new to this and no next to nothing
about the intricacies of a PC I am drowning fast in
technology. Can anyone help me out there!!!

Dell obviously used a Professional disk to load only the programs that come
in Small Business Edition. If you have the Small Business Edition disk,
then remove Office from the control panel->add/remove programs and reload it
using your SBE disk. Then try the updates again.

I am not sure that I understand your post. The Windows Update page provides
updates to the Windows Operating System, not Office.

Windows XP does have a Service Pack 1 update. Right click on My Computer and
select Properties. Look on the General tab, System area {at top}. If you
have Service Pack 1 installed it will say so.

If you are trying to install Windows XP Service Pack 1, at most you should
be asked for the Windows XP CD for the version you have. Usually the OEM
places the Windows files on your hard drive so no CD is required. Do not
know Dell's practice.

You can obtain updates for Office at this site:
http://office.microsoft.com/officeupdate/default.aspx

Office XP has more than one Service Pack update. When the above site scans
your computer for Office updates, it should ID what version of Office you
have and ask for those CDs. Open any Office application and go to Help
About {the application}.
If for example, you choose Excel, when you go to Help, About Excel you
should see:

Microsoft Excel 2002 {your current version} {SP-n}

The SP-n will be present if you have any Office service packs installed.
SP-1 for Service Pack 1 and SP-2 for Service Pack 2.

Guess: When Dell pre-installed Office XP SBE they may have miss-ID the
installation as an other version.
