XP Small Business

Hi All

I wonder if you can help and apologise upfront if this is
a daft question. I currently have Windows XP Home as an
operating system and have Microsoft Works installed to
give me Word and suchlike.

I was looking at installing Office XP Small Business
Edition as I am a small consultancy business. Would this
work o.k. with my current XP Op System.....I am assuming
the answer is yes, but before I buy I wanted to make
sure, as my retailer was not alot of help really. He
told me to buy Student Teacher Edition for some reason.

Anyway, thanks for your help.

I can't think why not, and you won't have to un-install Works either.

I'm just wondering, though, why you don't just go get the current
version of Office, which is Office 2003. The differences between the
various versions are outlined at

Office XP though? I am very confused. The Small
Business Office XP version has everything I would need.

Microsoft are so confusing sometimes for the 'Joe Public'
who need pointing in the right direction.

Simplistically: Office XP is an old product. It may well be still be
sold, but Office 2003 is the current version.

The web link I gave you outlines the various version. How is that
complicated?

Basically, I guess you are saying you want the Small Business Version
with it's 6 included products. Whereas the Office Pro adds Access, and
the Office Standard doesn't include Publisher and Business Contact Manager.

How is this hard? What is it you don't understand. We'll try to help,
but I don't know what the issue is.

1) Office XP SBE is only available with a new system - you cannot
purchase it seperately.

2) Office XP and Office 2003 are two completely different animals - 2003
is the latest Office version. You more than likely won't find XP on sale any
longer as the previous version tends to be withdrawn when a new one is
released.

3) I suggest you purchase the 2003 SBE (which is available retail)
upgrade using Works as a qualifying product.

Your colleague is in violation of the EULA (End User Licence Agreement) by
offering that to you. XP SBE is an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer)
licence and, as such, has a very limited licence.

1) It is *permanently* tied to the first system it's installed on - no
matter what fate befalls that system

2) It does not qualify for assistance from Microsoft - all assistance is
provided by the OEM.
