XP-SP3 installed successfully

Using Microsoft updates version 6 site, it says that there is an update for
my Office XP; Service Pack 3. Selecting, downloading and installing the SP3
update shows 'Successful'. Rescan for updates again shows the same Office XP
SP3 update available.

Opening one of the Office programs (Excel) shows in the Help/About that SP3
is installed.

Went through the steps in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798 including
unregistering, rebooting and reregistering the dll files. Scanning for
updates still shows the Office XP SP3.

listed in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel?

Can you run Detect & Repair successfully from a MS Office app?

Was Office XP installed from a CD source or from an Office
Admin Point on a server?

No, only Microsoft Office XP Professional is listed on the Add/Remove
programs list and in the Windows Installer CleanUp list.

Can you run Detect & Repair successfully from a MS Office app?

Ran the Detect & Repair from within Excel, no problems found.

Was Office XP installed from a CD source or from an Office

This Office XP Professional upgrade was installed locally from the CD.

I followed a procedure to completely remove Office XP using Windows
Installer Cleanup, removing the Office items from the registry, removing the
program file directories that Office was installed, rebooting and reinstalled
Office XP Pro upgrade. Did the updates from the Office Updates site
(http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdate/default.aspx) including the
SP3 and others. The Office Updates site now says my Office XP is up to date,
no more updates available...

The problem is when using the Microsoft Updates site
(http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en) which
checks for Windows and Office updates. It still lists Office XP SP3 as
available. Downloading and installing the SP3 update is 'successful'.
Rechecking for updates again still shows Office XP SP3 as needed.

I have 2 computers, both with Windows XP Pro and Office XP Pro upgrade
installed. One works fine using the Microsoft Updates site, the other still
says that Office XP SP3 needs to be installed.

I'm having problems with this. Using the Microsoft Updates site to check for
Windows and Office updates, it still lists the Office XP needing the SP3
update. Installing it and checking again still shows the Office XP SP3
needed. I have the same setup on two computers, both with Windows XP Pro and
both using Office XP Pro upgrade. One computer works fine with Microsoft
Updates site, the other one still shows SP3 needed. What's different between
these 2 computers as far as the updates?

Corresponding with an MS-Office expert, he suggested getting an Office XP
Pro full version and uninstalling the upgrade and install the full. I don't
want to (and shouldn't have to!) spend the extra money to buy another copy
of Office XP Pro.
