xxxxxxxxx when opening Excell and Word

Whenever I open word or excel files i get a constant
string of xxxxxxxxxxxxx's. They only stop when I hit any
key on the keyboard.

The next time I open Word or Excel this will not happen.
It's very random. But at least 5 times a day.

I've ran virus checks with no viruses found
xp pro
Office xp
