Yearly Rate Increase

Ziebarth

We are starting to look at the end of year planning and want to have a rate
increase in project. There are a number of questions in regards to this
though.
What does the rate change do to a project, not a prorated but a start?
Does it change anything that is not completed by the rate change date or
does it split actuals prior to actuals after, what does it do to tasks that
are % complete instead of actuals?
If you update after the rate change date, can you back date a task to prior
to the rate change date? Has anyone done this, what happened? Is it worth it?
Is there a way to change for just new projects? Ideas, feedback, I would
like it all.
Sorry for all the questions, but if we are going to do this we want to be as
informed as possible.

Hi Ziebarth,

Wau, lots of quesitons :) I will try to answer some of them:

Q: What does the rate change do to a project, not a prorated but a start?
A: It will start to use the new rate on the date that you have specified in
the resource cost table

Q: Does it change anything that is not completed by the rate change date or
does it split actuals prior to actuals after.
A: Not quite sure if I understand the question roccectly, but I assume you
want to know if it takes the new rate for the "non completed" work of a
resource, eventhough the task has already started. That depends how you have
accrued the cost. ( Start, End or accrued)

Q: what does it do to tasks that are % complete instead of actuals?
A: % completed and actual work is essentially the same. If you already
completed work, it will take the original rate.

Q: If you update after the rate change date, can you back date a task to
prior
to the rate change date? Has anyone done this, what happened?
A: I have not tried this, but would assume that if you change the start date
of a task to prior of the rate change date, then i would assume that it takes
the original rate. I would suggest to you to simply try it on one task. That
will allow you to answer the question :)

Q: Is there a way to change for just new projects?
A: Cost tables are based on Resources and not Projects, therefore the answer
is possibly no. But there is a way arround this. You can use Cost Rate Tables
( you have A to E). If you want a rate for a particular project for this
resource. I would assing the Cost rate table B (for example) to the new
project. The new project would then use the rate maintained in Cost rate
table B

I hope that I have answered some of your questions, please let me know if
you have more.
Thanks

Thanks so much that answers a lot of my questions. Any chance you can
explain the difference between start and end on a rate change.

Hi Ziebarth,

Start means that the rate you have at the start date will be used ( Project
Professional will charge the whole cost at the start of the task)

Finish means the opposite. Project Pro uses the rate applicble when the task
finishes and charges the whole cost one the task is comleted

I hope this helps
