I've read all the others in the forum, and also the 2 faqs frequently cited.
FAQ 34 helped me to understand one aspect of my issue, but still not
completely clear on this.
I have set up a bunch of recurring tasks. some are 1h long, others 2h long.
They all recur on workdays, sometimes for 5 workdays, sometimes for 10
workdays *
all of these sets of tasks have been assigned a resource (me at 100%). I
did this by clicking the Assign Resources icon, which puts me down as a
resource for each instance of the task, but not the "summary task".
I believe that when specifying the work for the tasks, I have filled in WORK
not DURATION (not sure if this makes a difference). The task are all left
with default settings, e.g. Effort Driven = True, and Fixed Units. All the
recurring tasks get automatically assigned a constraint of type
Start-No-Earlier-Than but I don't think that this should affect Projects
ability to move task forward.
level resources is set to fix up day-by-day. Monday 21st is first day of
project.
Now if I go into Resource Graph, it has me down as 1000% overallocated on
Monday 21st. THIS ONE I DO UNDERSTAND THANKS TO FAQ 34. Basically, in the
first hour of the day, I have 11 tasks overlapping, which means 11hrs of work
in that first hour in theory. In fact of course I have the whole day, so i
can just ignore this, or maybe resolve overallocations hour by hour. Yahoo, I
get it!
However, if I go into Resource Usage, it has me down as doing 16hrs on
Monday 21st July. I'm sure my boss would be happy. But my wife not so much
I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY IT WON'T SHIFT ANY TASKS.
Pls note: i'm using Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003 SP 3.
* by the way, what I'm trying to do here is capture the time taken to
discuss issues and get consensus when working in a global team - time to
write emails, think about proposals, gather consensus &c &c ... takes time.
