I have Outlook 2003 SP3 on an XP Pro SP3 System I am attempting to back up my
Mail file by exporting to a PST folder as suggested by the Outlook help
articles.
I have tried exporting my Personal folders using File -> Import and Export
-> Export to a File -> Next -> Personal Folder File (.pst) -> Personal
Folders / select Include subfolders -> Next -> I then select a New Folder
Name like "bacupxy.pst"
-> Click Finish ->
at this point the Dialog box for type of encryption / password / etc. comes
up I have tried various combinations of passwords, no passwords, and the
three encryption methods. I have also tried to create the PST file using the
File -> new file -> New Data File once again using password and no password
and for all combinations I get the following error or similiar error that:
File access is denied. You do not have the permission required to access the
file
Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook could not access the
specified folder location. File access is denied. You do not have the
permission required to access the file C:\Documents and
Settings\UserName\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\backup2.pst.
The only other item that may be useful is that the user name for the mail
account is different than the user name that I log into the computer. This is
my home computer and I don't log on using a password. My User is of type
Administrator.
Does anyone have any suggestions here... I have had my machine crash in the
past and I would REALLY like to back up my mail file... as setting this up
from scratch is not any fun at all...
